Machine Learning / Data Mining Group
Resarch Group Home Page
The ML/DM Group is actively engaged in research on Machine Learning and its application to Data Mining problems. Machine Learning is concerned with the automatic development and refinement of models and hypotheses based on observations and experience, whereas Data Mining is concerned with automatic extraction of information/models from observed data. Clearly techniques from ML are useful for applications in DM.
We collaborate on some research projects with other groups in NUI Galway, including the Enterprise Computing Research Group, the Computational Intelligence Research Group and the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science.
Our research interests include:
- Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) techniques
- Machine Learning algorithms, including Rule Learners, Neural Networks and Probabilistic approaches
- Bayesian Networks for Classification
- Reinforcement Learning
- 'Real-World' Applications of Machine Learning
- Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery in Databases
