The MSc in Software Design & Development provides focused training in software development techniques, tools and essential academic foundations. The course also develops students’ research capabilities, and allows them to pursue a substantial research project in some aspect of computing. Graduates of this degree are likely to enter research and development careers, within the software industry itself, or in a broad range of other sectors.
The skills developed here are intended to supplement the qualifications already acquired by students in their undergraduate degrees. Graduates will therefore be able to compete effectively for positions in the software industry, as software developers and/or researchers.
During the degree, students will have the opportunity to specialise in a chosen area of interest.
Students may choose to graduate with a Higher Diploma in Software Design & Development having successfully completed the first year or may proceed to the second year.
The programme is open to candidates with little or no IT experience who have obtained an honours degree (level 8) (minimum second class) or equivalent. Experience in a numerate discipline is desirable. Students from the Higher Diploma in Software Design and Development that achieve a minimum 2.1 result may opt to transfer to the second year of the M.Sc.(SDD) (subject to places being available). Similarly, M.Sc. students may opt to exit after completing year 1 with a H.Dip.

To provide students with the necessary skills, conceptual frameworks, methods, technologies and hands-on experience of software development, as a basis for a career in the IT industry. Students will also acquire specialised knowledge of specific IT topics and develop advanced research and development skills. Graduates of this programme will be eligible to pursue a range of career paths, primarily in the growing field of research and development in both industry and academia.

The course extends over 2 academic years ( full time ).

The fees for non-EU students for the previous academic year were approximately €13,500 Fees for the upcoming year have not yet been finalised.
