This stream provides an alternative entry route the Master of Science in Software Design and Development (GYE03).
The course develops students’ research capabilities, and allows them to pursue a substantial research project in some aspect of computing. The skills developed here are intended to supplement the qualifications already acquired by students in their undergraduate degrees and their professional experience. Graduates will therefore be able to compete effectively for positions in the software industry, as software developers and/or researchers.It is available to students that have completed an accredited (subject to approval by the School of Engineering and Informatics), level 8 (with 60 ECTS credits) postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science or Information Technology. Potential candidates are eligible to join the programme if the following conditions are met:
1. They have achieved the equivalent of a 2.1. (or better) honours degree.
2. They have built up a domain expertise which is equivalent to the year-1 syllabus of 1MF1.
Students are exempt from all GYE03 (year 1) subjects, but need to complete a Research Methodology module (provided via online means). Therefore students will enrol to the programme in semester 2 of a given year. Students have to complete this module in order totransfer to the second year.
Students that successfully complete year 1 will commence a research project that extends typically over a 12 months period.There may be a limitation on places available.
The programme extends over approximately 12 months (e.g. students are expected to deliver a piece of research that is equivalent to 800 hours of work).
